Every parent at some point wishes for a child with an excellent disposition with political correctness. Jenny was far from that and chose to be a social misfit without apology. Her folks left her to be wild as she wished maybe the world would teach her a hard lesson. The young lass believed she was too pretty and life was too short to adhere to societal norms. What lay ahead? In an unkind word that had no iota of mercy for whoever it chose to be harsh to, would the girl make to see another day?
One of her partying days led her to this posh joint where she brushed shoulders with the high and mighty. Her outfit looked cheaper than the girls there. That did not bother her for she believed in being her authentic self. It was one of those nights she remembered how she got hooked to prostitution. Hawking flesh was a lucrative assignment to her. There was no capital required, just a bit of polishing up and bingo! Days went by and the income seemed ok. You should have seen her mocking her friends who chose to endure the bitter roots of education. They were dimwits, she chest thumbed.
Jack was her favorite client. He tipped her so well and at times he would get emotional and attached. The rule of the game was thou shall not be attached to your client, pay, and go. In a world where marriages seem to be a burden, it was impossible to ignore special moments with Jack. He was the highest bidder and most of the time he wanted to rant about his lioness of a wife. Before she could barely notice that she was falling for him and voila they were married, so she thought. Jenny had to be careful and be extinct and at the same time present in Jack’s life for she was treading on a dangerous path, considering the nature of his wife.
One can pretend for long but not long enough for their toxic traits to start cropping up. This was her third-day nursing injuries from the thorough beating. How naive of her to ignore narcissistic traits that her lover had. During their previous moments, he had slapped her and kicked her several times, but she assumed it was frustrations from his wife. Either way he had paid her handsomely, apologized, and helped in sorting out her treatment. The red flags were all over and it was the time it dawned on her she was doomed.
She would have escaped like the hoodrat she was, but she was under lock and key. Jack would pop in any time, abuse, and molest her as he wished. She was paying for all the money he had spent on her, as he kept echoing while landing heavy blows on her. Jack was a coward projecting his egocentrism on a poor girl.
Love is a mystery because despite all this mistreatment Jenny loved Jack more. All her life, no man had shown her any sort of affection. Her parents could not hide the fact that they did not like her. This was a dream come true, to feel the love. She believed every blow was an act of love and besides he had saved her from Hawking flesh. Desperation at its peak.Jack the Messiah.
A thief’s days are numbered and it was not long that Kerry, Jack’s wife noticed her husband’s frequent absence. She did a follow of where he went and after she was sure of his hideout, she planned a raid. Kerry bumped into the little prison unannounced and caught Jack pants down battering Jenny. She could not believe that her soft spoken husband could lay a hand on a woman. To make matters worse she was cuffed on bed.
Her handcuffs had disappeared mysteriously in their house. Kerry was a cop and a senior cop explains why Jack feared her. She had gotten tired of being a housewife and decided to join the police college. All this time, she had been a champion for women’s rights and feminism. For the first time in her life, Jenny realized Kerry was her savior. The same woman whose husband she had slept with? The same woman she had betrayed? The same woman she had cursed for allegedly mistreating Jack? It was crystal clear that the whole thing was diabolical.
I looked at this lady as she helped me fill in my harassment charges sheet. I had gone to the station to report my husband who had decided to make my life a living hell. She went ahead to narrate how Kerry had helped her secure a position in the police academy and Sue Jack. I had made up my mind to walk out of my abusive marriage too once I left that station. I was sure that women are their own worst enemies, but after listening to Kerry, Women are their own saviors in a patriarchal society.
